When I was working at Rover employees were able to buy at exceedingly low prices anything that was going for scap. I reckon this car suffered an accident, probably a pallet fell on it, and was designated scrap. Those in the know would have desended on it in their lunchbreaks and stripped all the bits off it they wanted. Hence the condition it is in now.

According to the article it was:

"lost in the tunnels under Longbridge for around 35 years after a shipping container fell on it."
