Need 1098 early A series with gearbox (Magic Wand type) stick etc. For the right standard engine in very nice and good condition, might do interesting deal with my 1293 A+ built by Rob Walker less than 2000 miles ago:

Skimmed head, ported, 276 Kent cam, Hif 44 carb, bored +20/1000", hepolite 21253 pistons, 3.2 fd box with cross pin diff, LuK Rally plate clutch and cover, lightened flywheel. It's wild and very reliable, but too much for my Moke

The 1098 is not a revvy motor but is quite torquey hence I understand the attraction HOWEVER finding a good one could be a problem - especially A rather than A+.

the 1100 club   http://www.the1100club.com/index.php   might be able to help. I used to belong to the local club and they were an alright bunch of people.

Which is critical:

A series?

Magic wand?

1100?

combined engine and box?

and which would you compromise on?

I dont want to say this cuz I want your engine but that 1293 is a desirable lump.

Might be worth considering selling it and using the vast amount of mazoola obtained to source/have built a good 1100 bolted to your existing box.

I have a collection of gearboxes and as we have to move all my stuff to another location soon we will be having a sort out. There may be something to suit what you want. All the engines that came with them are are 998.

One of their members (with no conscience about originality of their car) might be interested in a straight swop.

THanks for the ideas Gary. I know my 1293 originally cost close to £2K. I would probably be best off taking it out and then advertising it. Will call the 1100club to see if they have anything....

Wow, a reply, only just over a year later! what is happening to the forums?!

Anywa, I have decided to stick with the Rob Walker lump. It is a formidable beast with loads of grunt! after looking at FUD's drivetrain more closely, it is well up to the job. Best to stay with a good thing :-)
