This evening (Friday) at 4pm an entertaining, fascinating and amusing evening was enjoyed in the company of Ron Barker - a renowned motoring journalist of "the old school". Ron was born in 1918 and from the age of four wanted to be in the motor car business. He has owned (and raced) a number of classic cars and has road tested, written about and ridden in hundreds if not thousands. As well as cars his other great knowledge is aircraft and he has been at the maiden flight of a number of classics of the sky including the Vulcan.

The evening comprised a 53 minute DVD of the great mans life followed by several stories from the mouth of the man himself. Even at 94 his wit is still sharp and his intellect and memory not at all diminished.

Ron was the first president of the Fairford Classic Car Club, lives in Swindon and went wing walking at his 90th birthday party at Nick Masons place in Rendcombe.

He has met most of the good and great of the motoring world from Stirling Moss to Enzo Ferrari.
